How do I do this brain teaser?
I have 80 oranges and one orange is heavier than the rest. I also have a comparison scale ( the scale that has two plates on each side). I can only use the scale 4 times. How do I find the heaviest orange?
are u sure you got the question right?
the logic goes like this i think;
split the 80 oranges into two equal piles, so you have 40 oranges in one pile and 40 in another. then u put both those piles on the scale. the heavier pile indicates that the heavier orange is in that pile.
so you discard the other pile, and split this pile of oranges (containing heavier orange) into two equal piles again; that is 20 oranges in each pile. then you repeat the above process.
you keep repeating this, until you end up with only two oranges, where one of them is the heavier orange; which you can find using the scale.

however, using this logic, the scale needs to be used more, or the number of oranges should be less. check if you got the numbers correct.
